Mrs. Minerva Ann Burnett Williams was born in Bedford county, Tenn. January 26, 1830. At the age of about 15 her father, Mr. J. B. Burnett, moved to Texas, stopping in Lamar Co. on the Red River. During a few years residence at his home about a mile north of what then was Pee Dee Camp ground, was Minerva married to Jonas W. Williams, on May 20th, 1848.
A few months later, Mr. and Mrs. Williams moved to Hunt County, and settled on Jones Creek about 2½ miles west of Wolfe City, and have resided there until the death of both her husband having preceded her to his final home about twenty one years. Mrs. Williams remained on the homestead until August 29th, 1905, when she moved to the home of her Daughter, Mrs. J. E. James in Wolfe City, where she lingered with a wasting disease for three months, when, among a throng of anxious relatives and friends, she peacefully passed to her final reward on Nov. 29th at 2 o'clock a.m. She bore her affliction with unusual patience, and during the latter part of her illness she talked beautifully of her home beyond, earnestly requesting her children to observe the good traits in people and overlook the bad and live faithfull Christians and meet her in heaven.
She professed Christianity in her childhood and joined the Free Will Baptist Church. After coming to Texas, there being no church of her faith covenient, she did not officiate with any church, as a member, until about 1890, when she joined the M. E. Church, South. Her life was an exemplary Christian life from her youth until death.
In her domestic life she was consistent and resigned in her firmness, yielding a constraining influence that called forth the highest respect and strongest affections of her children.
She was the mother of ten children, five of whom survive her. The surviving children are J. B. Williams, the eldest child, B. Z. Williams, L. R. Williams, Mrs. W. H. Stone, and Mrs. J. E. James, all of whom live in the community in which she spent her life. Her living descendants are five children, twenty one grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Eleven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren are dead.
There has never been a time during the long period which she lived in this community that all of her children could not have been summoned to her home within two hours time.
She was among the earliest settlers of this country, and has lived about fifty-eight years on the homestead, where she has been known by many who still live and many who have gone on before to await her coming.
She is gone from the walks of men, but her hallowed influence still lives here, while she lives in a brighter, fairer land where, by the grace of God we may strike hands with her some sweet day on the sunny banks of sweet deliverance, if we will follow her advice and be faithfull.

Other than the children listed, John and Vickie had three other children who died in infancy.
Obituary - copies can be obtained from Charlie Vines
After an extended illness covering a period of about two years, J. B. Williams died at his home in Wolfe City on Monday, September 16th, at 5 o'clock. For two months he had been confined to his bed and during this time he endured much intense suffering. He was a most and hopeful sufferer and seemed determined to live in spite of the grapple of the death angle, but this messenger finally subdued him and seperated spirit and body.
He was born in the year of 1850 at his father's home two miles west of town and grew up to manhood there. He passed through the civil war as a boy and had much experience incident to that period of time in this sparsely settled section.
When young he married Miss Lou Garrett, who lived but a few months, leaving a baby girl, who is now Mrs. Milton Webb. Later he married Miss Victoria Hutson, and to this union were born seven children, four of whom are living. These are Mrs. Claude Vaden, of Wolfe City, Hiram D. Williams of Aberfoyle, Mrs. Webb Wilson, near town, and Paul Williams who is at home with his mother.
J. B. Williams had many good virtues in the make up of his character. He professed Christianity about twenty years ago and was faithful to the end. A friend asked him a short time before he died if all was well with him and his God and his reply was, "Yes, I am sure ready to go". He was a member of the Masonic order, to which he was devoted, never missing a meeting when able to attend. He lived and dealt with his fellow man on the great principles of honesty and justice. He was a kind and loving husband and father and a faithful friend. A good man has left the walks of men and those who have known him will miss him. The home will have a vacant chair, the church will have a vacant pew, the Masonic Hall a vacant seat, and the hearts of his loved ones will feel the pang of an aching void.
The funeral services were conducted by Rev. A. B. Davidson, his pastor, at the Methodist Church, and was attended by a large congregation of relatives and friends. He was laid away in Mount Carmel cemetery amid a profusion of beautiful flowers. Though he is gone and we shall see him no more, Till we meet on the banks of the evergreen shore, Still in the memory his noble virtues will live, And to loved ones and friends much comfort will give.

Birth Notes: Husband - John Henry Vines
The 1850 United States Census states that John was born in Alabama, United States of America
General Notes: Husband - John Henry Vines
John Henry Vines was living in Carroll Co., Ga. in the home of his father Isaiah Bradford Vines, according to the 1860 Census (this information provided by Wilma Thedford).
John joined the Confederate Army in May 1861 in Saline Co., Arkansas. He served in the Falcon Guards, which later became Company E, 11th Arkansas infantry. He was captured on April 8, 1862 and served 6 months at Camp Butler near Springfield, Illinois. He was exchanged along with 1180 other prisoners at Vicksburg, Mississippi on Sept. 20, 1962. He rejoined his company near Jackson after he was paroled and served until July 1865.
After the Civil War, he married Margaret Burns and had a family by her. She, along with some of her children died about 1879. Then John married a widow lady, Mahazy Ellen Russell Lewis, with two children. Together they had a large family. In his declining years he filed for a pension in March 1903 from the state of Arkansas. He drew, at first, $25.00 and then was increased to $33.50. He drew this pension until his death in 1923 and his widow, Mahazy Ellen, drew the widows pension until her death, date is unknown. Pension records for her was date 1924, so we know she died after 1924. Tom Vines' daughter, Jean, recalls sitting on her grandmothers lap & was given an apple. Jean was born in 1921, so 1924 would be about right for her death.
Arkansas Confederate Veterans and Widows application # 19614.
Wilma Thedford list John Henry being born 3 Jun 1836 while Jim & Mary Pat Young list his birth as 3 Jun 1837. His obituary list 3 Jun 1836. I have chosen to list 1836 as his birth date.
I received a copy of John Henry's obituary from Wilma Thedford.
*** OBITUARY OF GRANDFATHER VINES ***
John H. Vines was born in the state of Georgia June 3, 1836. Just lacking three days of being 87 years of age at the time of his death which occurred May 30, 1923 at the home of his son Thomas, who lived in the vicinity of Hope, Ark, Hempstead county. He lived in his native state near Atlanta, until he was eighteen years of age, when he joined theConfederate army and served until the end of the war, after which he came to Arkansas and was married Margaret Burns, to whom was born five children, Mrs. Ella Hodnott, Mrs Ida Ratcliff (whose death occurred 22 years ago,) Mrs Lula Starnes and Walter Vines. The wife and mother of this family departed this life 44 years ago. Her remains are buried in the New Hope cemetery near the primitive Baptist Church where he and his wife and some of the children held membership for years.
Some years later he was married to Hayes Lewis, and of this family were six children, Three sons, Thad, Lum, and Thomas, and three daughters, Mrs Fanny Arnold, Mrs Gordie Rodgers and Mrs Maude Burns. The latter preceded her father in death about two months. Besides the aged companion, there are 26 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. He has always been an active an industrious man being held in high esteem by his friends who were counted as many.
He of later years has held membership with his wife and some of the family at the Ebeneezer church of Baptist faith. On his 80th birthday, his children began to hold an annual reunion of the family in of the aged couple. Each year on June 3rd, they were permitted to be together enjoying a bounteous repast and always some good old time songs were sung in praise to the "Giver of every good gift" that we receive.
In May he was stricken with his last sickness from which he could not rally, and just three days before his 87th birthday, he was called to the reunion of the Saints who are waiting the home coming of the God's family to all be gathered safely home. "What a gathering of the faithful there will be."
One son, Lum Vines, and two daughters, Mrs Ella Hodnott and Mrs Lula Starnes were not present at the funeral, sickness preventing the daughters from attending. The family of this dear old father have the sympathy of all their friends in their bereavement and they are grateful for the kindness shown them in their time of sorrow. Internment was made in the cemetery near Ebeneezer church and funeral services were held at the church May 31st.
"When our days of life are ended and our trails are all o'er we then will join the glad reunion there to dwell forever more."
Written by request of some of the Family.
A friend of the family, MRS H. B. SANDFORD
NOTES:
--This was published in the Arkansas Herald Monday, June 11, 1923
--The Ebeneezer cemetery where John Henry was buried is now New Hope. Not to be confused by another New Hope cemetery where his 1st wife was buried along with some of their children on Patmos Rd.
--Unfortunately, in the obituary, one son, Henry Allen Vines, was not listed. Five children were mentioned but listed only four by Margaret Burns.
General Notes: Wife - Margaret Lucy Burns
From Wilma Thedford,
Margaret Burns Vines died about 1879, according to the obituary of her husband in 1923. It said she was buried in the New Hope Cemetery (on the Patmos Road) where they were once members. Her grave is unmarked, unknown location. She has near her, most of her children in the same cemetery. There are a number of Burns families buried there, but not known if they are her family. It is probable that the Burns buried here are her relatives. In the 1850 census of Carroll co., Georgia, there was a family of M. S. Burns and wife Ann, also a daughter, Margarite born ca. 1843. Some of the same bunch of Burns migrated to Hempstead County, Arkansas by 1860. Not able to locate this M. S. Burns in the 1860 census. But by 1880, Ann Burns, a widow, was living next door to John Henry, also a widower with 5 children. So this is a strong lead that can be followed to find Margaret line.
General Notes: Child - Henry Allen Vines
From Wilma Thedford
On Henry's death certificate, his brother John Walter gave Henry's birthdate as 1869. Census records show it as 1867.
