General Notes: Husband - William Asa Vines
After his mothers death, William Asa Vines worked as a farm hand for a Rev. Lockhart in Covington Co., Al. He worked for the Rev. so that he could pay his way to Texas where the Rev. was going to move his family. They moved to Texas in 1870. After arriving in Texas, he worked for the Rev. Lockhart for an additional year to complete payment for his trip. He worked as a farm hand in the Plano and Allen (both in Collin Co., Tx) area for a while. He then moved to Washington Co., near Houston, where he did some farming and married. He moved back to the Plano, Collin Co., area several years later and bought a farm. The farm was located where the W. A. Vines High School, which was named after him, is located on 15th Street in Plano. He was a Director of the Plano Bank for 30 years and had other farming and business interests. He was also very involved in the Plano Masonic lodge of which he was a founder. (This information was provided by Robert 'Bob' Vines of Plano, Texas).
