Daniel Browett Harris
Bishop D. B. Harris, Layton Pioneer Called
Bishop D. B. Harris, one of the oldest and most prominent residents of
Davis County and one of the first, if not the first to raise beets in
Davis County, died at his hom in Layton, last Friday evening, of
cancer, after a long illness
He was the son of the late Robert and Hannah Maria Harris and was born at Council Bluff, Iowa, Oct 31, 1848.
His parents came to Utah shortly after his birth and located in Kaysville and he had since resided in Kaysville and Layton.
Mr. Harris was the first bishop of Layton ward, and served in that
capacity for twenty-one years. He was one of the most prominent farmers
of this locality and had held many prominent positions in Davis County.
Mr. Harris was twice married. His first wife was Elizabeth Ann
Thornley, died in 1879, leaving one son, B. T. Harris, of Kaysville. He
later married Mary Ann Parkinson of Malad, Idaho, who with the follow
children survive him: Fred Harris of Ogden; Jesse Harris, Ezra P.
Harris, David O. Harris, and Miss Cecil Harris, all of Layton; Mrs.
Chloe Harris of Black Pine, Idaho, and Mrs. James H. Walker of Raymond,
Alberta, Canada. Also he is survived by a large number of
grandchildren, one sister and three brothers.
Funeral services were held Tuesday noon.
